Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mike Mullen, and officials tasked with conducting a study on military attitudes toward service by openly gay and lesbian personnel briefed reporters on the results their survey on the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. The study found that a large majority of service members would not be adversely affected by a change in the policy.  close
