In their first appearance at the White House since the George W. Bush presidency, Former President and First Lady Laura Bush attended the official unveiling of their portraits to be hung in the White House. President Obama, in remarks that were sometimes humorous, thanked the former president for his assistance and encouragement during the transition between administrations, saying, “We may have our differences politically, but the presidency transcends those differences.” He also mentioned President Bush’s “strength and resolve” in the first days following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. close
