Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano testified about the department’s fiscal year 2014 budget request. Topics included a number of security-related incidents within the previous week including the Boston Marathon bombing, an explosiion at a fertilizer plant in Texas, and the discovery of tainted letters sent to the president and two members of Congress. Other issues included immigration, border security, disaster relief, and the impact of sequestration. During questioning she refuted a number of false stories in the news about the Boston Marathon bombing investigation, including a report that a so-called “person of interest” was scheduled for deportation. close
