Congressional leaders held a celebration recognizing Representative John Dingell (D-MI) as the longest-serving member of the U.S. Congress.*Elected in 1955, Congressman Dingell had served in Congress for over 57 years and on June 7, 2013, passed the record of the late Senator Robert Byrd. It was announced that a committee room would be named after Representative Dingell, and a copy of the portrait hanging in that room was presented to him.
