Steven Cox, Head of Special Collections and University Archives at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, talked about the Civil War Papers of John T. Wilder, including the impact of the war as expressed in Wilder’s letters to his wife. General John T. Wilder was one of Chattanooga’s most distinguished citizens in the last half of the 19th century. He was not a native, but a northerner, who relocated to the city after attacking it as a Union officer during the Civil War.
