Officials from Los Angeles World Airports (LAX), the Transportation Security Administration and the American Federation of Government Employees testified at a field hearing at LAX on preparing for and responding to emergencies at airports. The hearing was held primarily in response to the November 2013 shooting at LAX. LAX Chief of Police Patrick Gannon told committee members that having an armed officer at the scene of the shooting probably would not have prevented it from happening. TSA Administrator John Pistole said that more than a dozen new security measures had been adopted since the shooting, but emergency communications remained an area of concern. close
