Originally founded in 1702, Mobile was relocated in 1711 to its current site, where a temporary wooden stockade fort was constructed to protect the town. It was built by the French on the strategic location of Mobile Bay, the eastern most part of the Louisiana colony, as a defense against British and Spanish attacks. Fort Conde protected Mobile and its citizens for nearly 100 years from 1723-1820.
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2014 LCV Cities Tour” in Mobile, Alabama, from April 21-24 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPA
