Former President George W. Bush was a featured speaker at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. He talked about his presidential initiative to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa and his Bush Institute’s “Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon” effort to combat cervical and breast cancer. Other speakers included Jill Biden, the first ladies of Ethiopia and Namibia, and young African leaders who were members of the President Obama’s Mandela Washington Fellowship program. The program began with a video presentation.

This event was part of the Office of the First Lady, the George W. Bush Institute, and the U.S. Department of State’s “Investing in Our Future at the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit,” a day-long “Spousal Program” highlighting the role first spouses play, and focused on the impact of investments in education, health, and public-private partnerships.It was part of the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit held in Washington from August 4-6, 2014, to strengthen ties between U.S. and African leaders. close
