Rep. Hamilton, member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, spoke in the Washington Issues Seminar for the North Carolina Chamber of Commerce, sponsored by Reps. Hefner, Lancaster, Neal and Valentine. Rep. Hamilton discussed the mood of the American voter and American foreign policy, including the balance between domestic issues and national security interests. Mr. Goldin discussed the future of American space research and the NASA space program, calling for continued funding for new initiatives in space. Rep. Schroeder discussed the state of American education, including the report of the House Select Committee on Children on the rising costs of higher education. House Majority Leader Rep. Gephardt spoke on U.S. economic concerns, including the federal deficit and economic competitiveness. Sen. Rockefeller spoke on the unfair reputation of Congress and health care reform. Each speaker responded to questions from the audience following their prepared remarks. close
