Vicki Tiseth and Kathleen Deagan talked about the history of Fort Mose and what researchers learned about the Fort during excavations that took place more than 250 years after its founding. They spoke about the lives of ex-slaves who lived in the fort and the Spanish settlers who founded the fort in 1738. Fort Mose is considered a precursor to the Underground Railroad. The Spanish offered slaves their freedom in exchange for declaring allegiance to the King and the Catholic Church.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in St. Augustine, Florida, from March 22-26 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Comcast Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
