Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings in the U.S. Senate
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Lexington, Kentucky, from June 20-25 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Time Warner Cable local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. Justin Wedeking, co-author of Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings in the U.S. Senate, talked about the claim that Supreme Court nominees have become more evasive in recent decades and that this has impacted the political atmosphere of Senate confirmation hearings. Mr. Wedeking talked about changes in the political culture of Congress and how the 1981 introduction of televised coverage of the hearings has impacted the nomination process.
