Hank Schoch talked about the history of the Colorado National Monument. In the early 1900s, John Otto came to Grand Junction, Colorado, to explore the rugged canyons to the west of town. Prior to his arrival, many area residents believed the canyons to be inaccessible to humans. Otto built trails to the plateau and into the canyons, and during the Great Depression the Civil Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration (WPA) completed roads throughout the canyons.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2015 LCV Cities Tour” in Grand Junction, Colorado, from July 6-10 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Charter Communications local affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on Book TV on C-SPAN2. close
