President George H. W. Bush, flanked by his wife, House Minority Whip Representative Newt Gingrich, Senator Strom Thurmond, and South Carolina Governor Carroll Campbell, spoke to an enthusiastic crowd at a railroad station in Norcross, Georgia. Speaking in front of his train at the station, the president alluded several times to the Atlanta Braves baseball team currently playing in the World Series in predicting his election victory. He criticized the economic and social proposals of Gov. Clinton and repeated his allegations against Gov. Clinton’s pattern of “waffling” on issues. Following his speech, the president donned an Atlanta Braves windbreaker. close
