Thomas Reeder, the director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), the federal agency that insures pensions of workers and retirees in private sector defined benefit plans, outlined the “dire” condition of multiemployer pension plans backed by the PBGC, saying it is “more likely than not” to be insolvent in 10 years unless Congress and the White House take action. This was the keynote address of the 2016 Annual Meeting and Public Policy Forum of the American Academy of Actuaries. close
