Historians from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum talked about the journey of the St. Louis and the fate of its passengers. In 1939, some 900 Jewish refugees sailed from Hamburg, Germany, for Cuba on the ship St. Louis in an attempt to escape Nazi persecution. Cuba refused most of them and the United States turned the ship away, forcing the refugees to return to Europe. close
