In an excerpt from the session of the House of Representatives, representatives debated legislation that would amend the National Labor Relations Act to prevent discrimination against workers who participate in labor strikes. The bill would prevent employers from hiring permanent replacement workers for employees who go on strike. Proponents of the legislation said it would guarantee workers their right to strike for better working conditions and wages, while opponents claim the bill would cause American business firms to go out of business because of labor’s upper hand in contract negotiations. The House later passed the bill. close
