Panelists talked about political unrest in Venezuela. The secretary general of the Organization of American States gave a keynote address highlighting the situation on the ground, the arrests and deaths of peaceful protestors, and how the government’s crackdown was reminiscent of a dictatorship. Following his remarks, experts discussed the humanitarian crisis in the country, the need for more international pressure against the Venezuelan political leaders, and the impact if the U.S. were to impose unilateral oil sanctions against the country. They argued it would hurt the people more than the government. close
