Food and Drug Administration Commissioner David Kessler and members of consumer watchdog groups spoke in a news conference to introduce an education program for consumers concerning the FDA’s new nutrition labeling guidelines on food products. The new labels are designed to allow consumers to determine the nutritional value of a product at a glance. The speakers commended the new guidelines, saying the labels reflected a more accurate nutritional account of the portions of food people usually eat in a meal. The labels will be in place on all products by May 1994. close
