Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen testified before the Joint Economic Committee on the country’s economic outlook. She told committee members the economic recovery was “broad based” both domestically and across the world. She did not say if the central bank would increase interest rates during its upcoming December 2017 meeting but stated it would maintain a gradual monetary approach to prevent what she called a “boom-bust” economy.

Ms. Yellen’s testimony was likely her last appearance before Congress, as she announced she would leave her position at the end of her term in February 2018. President Trump nominated Federal Reserve Board member Jerome Powell to succeed her. close
