New York Sen. Robert F. Kennedy announced he was running for president on March 16, 1968. Several members of Congress and two of his descendants marked the 50th anniversary of that announcement at an event looking at RFK’s life and legacy. Speakers included House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Georgia Rep. John Lewis. Also speaking were RFK’s grandson, Rep. Joe Kennedy, as well as his daughter, Kerry Kennedy, whose Robert Kennedy Human Rights organization hosted the event. This took place in the Russell Senate Office Building’s Kennedy Caucus Room, where both Robert and his brother John announced their presidential candidacies. close
