The Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, Innovation and the Internet held a hearing on global internet governance. Witnesses, including former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, talked about the different sets of standards and laws pertaining to internet service, use and security around the globe. They made recommendations about what Congress and U.S. officials could do to draft internet usage rules for Americans and American companies that would balance privacy and security concerns, as well as integrate well with the existing standards set by other countries. close
