Scientists and environmental experts testified before a Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation subcommittee on the impacts of harmful algae blooms (HABs) in U.S. water systems, specifically the Florida Gulf Coast, the Great Lakes, and Alaska. According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), harmful algae blooms occur when colonies of algae grow out of control while producing toxic effects on people, marine life, and birds. close
