Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety unveiled their annual report on state highway safety laws. Also discussing the group’s report was a police chief, an emergency room nurse, an insurance agent, and representatives from a child safety group and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). The participants talked about laws needed to prevent traffic deaths, such as stricter requirements for car seats, teenage drivers, mobile phones, helmets for motorcyclists, and repeat drunk driving offenders. They also discussed technology to prevent accidental deaths of children left in the back seat of vehicles. In 2018, 49 children died from being left in hot cars, according to the report. close
