British House of Commons Speaker John Bercow addressed the Brookings Institution on the role of Parliament. He spoke on a range of issues, including Prime Minister Theresa May’s resignation announcement, how debate over Britain’s exit from the European Union (or "Brexit") changed the way he conducted Parliament, and keeping order in the chamber during a polarizing time in politics. He was also asked to speak on the process of inviting U.S. presidents to speak to parliament, after his decision to dis-invite President Trump in 2017. close
