From June 26, 1948 to May 12, 1949, the Soviet Union blockaded West Berlin, Germany, preventing shipments of food, heating fuel, and other necessary goods. This program marked the 70th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift; the allied operation that used cargo planes to bypass the Soviet blockade. Two historians presented an illustrated history of the crisis, and they were then joined on stage by 92 year-old Berlin Airlift veteran Ralph Dionne, who was a C-54 flight engineer. The International Spy Museum and the Allied Museum in Berlin, Germany co-hosted this event. close
