The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit heard oral argument in the U.S. House Judiciary Committee’s quest to get grand jury materials from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The committee was seeking the materials as part of the impeachment inquiry of President Trump, specifically to determine whether the president lied in written responses to questions from the special counsel. Douglas Letter, the general counsel for the House, argued before the three-judge panel on the relevance of the documents to the ongoing investigation. He urged the court to rule quickly on the matter as impeachment hearings continued. close
