The House Judiciary Committee met to mark up the Justice in Policing Act of 2020. Following opening statements by Chair Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Ranking Member Jim Jordan (R-OH), members debated amendments that included such issues as audio recordings of interviews conducted by federal law enforcement officers; “antifa” movement activists; punishments for lynching crimes; qualified immunity for police officers; the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Program; “no knock” warrants; collective bargaining agreements; the de-militarization of police departments; policing at the U.S. southern border; and the federal police force. The bill passed through the committee along party lines, 24-14. close
