President Bill Clinton, Attorney General Janet Reno, members of Congress and local law enforcement officials spoke in a White House ceremony to announce the introduction of the Clinton administration’s crime legislation to Congress. The legislation would provide more funds to put more policemen on the street, and would provide incentives for communities' self-policing programs. President Clinton also said he would sign an order banning the importation of foreign-made handguns, and Attorney General Reno said the administration was dedicated to pass the Brady bill restricting the sale of handguns. close
