The Appropriations Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee held a hearing to address aging Veterans Affairs health care facilities across the country. Brett Simms, the executive director of the VA Office of Asset Enterprise Management , explained the system has around 1,700 health care facilities that were built - on average - 60 years ago. Mr. Simms projected it would cost between $49-$59 billion to fully fund all of the projects in immediate need of care but cautioned those costs would not address new issues or additional building upgrades. Representatives asked questions about construction projects in their districts that have faced years of delays. close
