Dr. Lavizzo-Mourney spoke in favor of President Clinton’s health care reform package and emphasized the security it would provide. She briefly outlined the plan’s six principles including security, savings, simplicity, choice, quality and responsibility. Mr. Moffit thought it was too good to be true, sought to micromanage healthcare and opposed the package. and favored a larger role for the free market. Questions from the audience asked about cost, the roles of the states in the President’s plan, why can’t the elected legislators act on the plan quickly and raising taxes on states do not comply with segments of the plan. close
