Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Daniel Werfel testified on IRS accountability and oversight before the House Ways and Means Committee. Commissioner Werfel stressed the agency’s promise to not increase the audit rate for taxpayers making less than $400,000 per year, but instead to focus its attention on the highest earners with the most complex tax returns. Other topics addressed were closing the tax gap, modernization efforts, workforce level increases, IRS enforcement, and data and cybersecurity. close
