CIA Director William Burns discussed global security challenges at the Aspen Security Forum in Aspen, Colorado. In regard to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, he said the Ukrainian counteroffensive was going slowly, but believed Ukraine would be able to make advances. He also discussed a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan, why he thought Africa was an underrated challenge, and his thoughts on the now-deceased Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi being one of the “creepiest” world leaders. Director Burns was interviewed by NPR’s Mary Louise Kelly. close
