Behavioral scientists from the RAND Corporation held a virtual discussion on their research of veterans' support for extremist groups and beliefs. Some key findings were that veterans in general appeared to have similar or lower support for extremism in comparison to the general public, but Marine Corps veterans in particular were likelier to support extremism than those from other branches. Also, the scientists pointed out that their research is preliminary and remains ongoing. Their work was conducted amid reports that 13-18% of rioters at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, were current or former members of the military. close
