The Senate Judiciary’s Anti-Trust Subcommittee held a third hearing concerning the merger of cable television and telecommunications corporations. Tele-Communications Inc. President John Malone talked about the merger of the cable company, TCI, and a regional Bell operating company, Bell-Atlantic which would develop digital video delivery to households. Senator Howard Metzenbaum, D-Ohio expressed skepticism about whether the merger would result in increased competition. Senator Bob Kerrey (D-KS) testified as a witness on the need for competition in the communication industry and expressed concern about whether further regulation would achieve this. close
