Among the several topics he discussed was renewing Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which expires on December 31, 2023, unless Congress takes action to reauthorize it. He said that this intelligence tool, which is used to collect facts on foreign nationals outside the U.S., is “the most important authority that we utilize day in and day out,” adding that 59% of the information in the U.S. president’s daily briefings comes from it. He also discussed the recent creation of the AI Security Center in the NSA, which oversees the development and integration of artificial intelligence capabilities within U.S. national security systems.
