Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin expressed outrage after three U.S. servicemembers were killed in an attack at a U.S. base in Jordan. He added the U.S. will respond appropriately to the deadly attack that left many other servicemembers injured. The secretary’s comments came as he welcomed the NATO secretary-general to the Pentagon. This was Secretary Austin’s first public event since being hospitalized in late December 2023 for cancer treatment complications. The hospitalization came under scrutiny after the secretary failed to disclose it to the White House and other Pentagon officials immediately. close
