President Biden traveled to East Palestine, Ohio, to meet with members of the community and give an update on the federal government’s efforts to hold rail operator Norfolk Southern accountable following a train derailment in February of 2023. President Biden called the derailment a result of greed on behalf of Norfolk Southern and said they had a responsibility to transport hazardous chemicals safely. The president also announced federal grant resources to research the long-term effects on the community from the toxic chemical fire. EPA Administrator Michael Regan and East Palestine, Ohio, Mayor Trent Conaway (R) also joined the president and gave remarks. close
