The non-binding resolution passed 14-0, with the U.S. being the only member to abstain from the vote. Mr. Kirby explained: “We wanted to get to a place where we could support this resolution, but because the final text does not have key language that we think is essential, such as condemning Hamas, we couldn’t support it.” He also talked about how the U.S. would continue to work to bring the release of hostages who have been held since 2023's October 7 attack on Israel, and answered questions on the U.S.-Mexico border.
