In an archived episode of the PBS program, “The Advocates,” Governor Michael Dukakis, D-MA, moderated a debate regarding the powers of the purse. This episode aired on C-SPAN during the governor’s 1988 run for presidency.

“The Advocates” was a series of debates on national and international issues, where advocates would introduce witnesses to support their point of view. Governor Dukakis moderated the show for two seasons while he was still a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

This episode featured Senator Edmund Muskie, D-ME; Senator William V. Roth Jr., R-DE; Representative Morris King Udall, D-AZ, and other political figures. close
