The Arizona House of Representatives voted to repeal an 1864 law banning nearly all abortions in the state. Three Republicans joined 29 Democrats to repeal it. The Arizona Senate would next take the measure up for consideration. This 1864 law came into the limelight after the state Supreme Court ruled in April 2024 the law was still applicable and outlaws nearly all abortions. Prior to voting, members from both parties participated in passionate debate. close
