The two main opposition leaders responded to Japanese Prime Minister Tsutoma Hata’s first policy address, which occurred on May 10th. Yohei Kono, Liberal Democratic Party Leader spoke about the need for stability and “normalcy” in Japanese politics and accused the newly proposed cabinet of being narrowly-based. Prime Minister Hata responded to the charges made by Yohei Kono on the narrow base of the cabinet. Tomiichi Murayama, Socialist Democratic Party Chairman spoke about the recession and the need for political stability and renewed confidence in government.
