During a congressional hearing looking at the health effects of smoking, the House Health & the Environment Subcommittee continued its series of hearings on the impact of smoking and efforts by cigarette manufacturers to suppress this information. The panel heard from one witness, Joseph Califano. Mr. Califano served as President Carter’s Health, Education and Welfare Secretary from 1977 to 1979. close
