Vice President Al Gore traveled to Ottowa to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien. The two talked about U.S.-Canada relations and the upcoming Western Hemisphere summit to be held in Miami this December. Vice President Gore spent a day in Ottawa to talk with Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien. He is the leader of the ruling Liberal Party, which has 177 members in parliament. He became Prime Minister late last year. The news conference centered on international trade issues including grain sales and the North American Free Trade Agreement. close
