On this day, The Senate was scheduled to resume debate on the Health Care Reform Bill proposed by Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell (D-Maine). The bill aims to cover 95% of Americans by the year 2000. If this coverage goal is not met, employers would have to help pay for employees insurance. The bill requires that preventive care, home health services and prescriptions be included in plans. The cost of the measure would be paid for through Medicare and Medicaid savings and taxes. These would include and excise tax on gun ammunition and cigarettes. close
