The guests discussed several state ballot intiatives that aim to bar state and local governments from enacting laws designed to shield gays and lesbians from discrimination. The ballot initiatives would also outlaw programs in public institutions such as schools that suggest homosexuality is acceptable, and would require libraries to keep materials with homosexual content in a restricted area away from minors. Colorado’s intiative (Amendment 2) passed in a previous election but was declared unconstitutional by the Colorado State Supreme Court. It is being appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court. Idaho has a similar ballot initiative (Proposition 1) that will be voted on in the upcoming November 8 election. close
