Following a telephone conversation with Army Chief Warrant Officer Bobby Hall, President Clinton announced the helicopter pilot’s release in apparent good health from 12 days captivity in North Korea. The helicopter may have been shot down when it strayed off course on a routine training mission. Hall’s co-pilot was killed in the incident. The president denied that any concessions had been made to North Korea to secure his release. The president took only one question from the press after his prepared remarks. close
