Assistant Secretary Holbrooke spoke about the difficulties implementing the Dayton agreement. He emphasized that the success of peace is important not only for the Balkan region, but for Europe because it will show how European nations can cooperate in the post Cold War world. He also talked about successful U.S. efforts to diffuse Greek-Turkish tensions over a small island. He used this as an example of how post Cold War problems can be handled by the U.S. After his remarks, he took questions from the audience. close
