Current news events and political issues were examined through reviews of the morning newspapers; interviews with journalists, newsmakers and legislators; and viewer telephone calls, faxes and electronic mail. In the first segment, Ms. Orin talked about the morning headlines including issues affecting the presidential campaigns. In the newspaper roundtable, Mr. Samuelson and Mr. Shapiro talked about current issues including upcoming presidential elections and international politics. Mr. O’Brien talked by telephone about his first vote and plans for the future. Mr. Newton talked about the life of Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt and the monument soon to be built in his honor. In the next segment, Profs. Lichtman and Lynch talked about the role of third parties in the political system. Mr. Winger talked by telephone about ballot access across the nation. Mr. Schmitz talked by telephone about his third party presidential campaign in 1972. close
