President Clinton approached a microphone set up in front of his desk in the Oval Office and, first, congratulated the Justice Department for breaking up a Mexican cocaine-smuggling ring. Then he announced that he would veto the bill that would have limited damage awards in product liability lawsuits, saying that the legislation would have allowed dangerous products into homes. He also objected to a portion of the bill which would have weakened handgun control laws. He answered questions from the press. close
