After their elections, Senate Republican leaders talked to reporters about the agenda for the 105th Congress. Senator Trent Lott (R-Mississippi) talked about Republican desires to work with the president and their commitment to investigate Democratic campaign finances, especially since no independent counsel would be appointed. The other leaders included Senator Larry Craig (R-Idaho), chair of the Senate Republican Policy Committee and Senator Don Nickles (R-Oklahoma), Senate whip, who were re-elected, and Senator Paul Coverdell (R-Georgia), Secretary of the Senate Republican Conference, Senator Connie Mack (R-Florida), Chairman of the Republican Conference, and Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. close
